Thanks Katie

So, I'm doing this pyramid thing. The one recommended by the Kult leader. It goes like this:

WU
200 easy (at least)

4x25 with 5 seconds rest
2x50 with 10 seconds rest
2x100 with 15 seconds rest
2x200 with 20 seconds rest
2x100 with 15 seconds rest
2x50 with 10 seconds rest
4x25 with 5 second rest

WD
200 easy (at least)
Lather, rinse, repeat after 2 minute rest... 3-2-1 GO! :)

Somewhere in the middle ( one of the 200s) my mind started wandering. I thought of excuses and rationalizations. I pondered removing Katie's link and blocking any further contact from her. I reminded myself that it's been too long since I read Total Immersion and that I needed to practice my zipper switches et. al. I wondered whether it'd be worth it to equip myself with some waterproof tunes in the future. I cussed and swore. I kept going. I noted that I was lapping the guy next to me and using a fraction of his stroke pace - this made me feel better (shame on me). I was wishing the water wasn't bath temperature. I started trying to come up with ways to get vengeance. I wondered how hard it'd be to quit this Kult thing and get deprogrammed. I thought of Kristy McNichol and her brother in that made-for-TV movie "Blinded by the Light." I got to my 20sec rest - 20 bleeding seconds! I swam the rest of the pyramid completely empty of thoughts. When I finished the first round I found two wonderful things had occurred: It was too late for me to do a complete pyramid again and there were two guys on deck waiting for a lane to open. I graciously, if not gracefully, got out and offered my lane - a lane full of sweat, foul words, prideful and hateful thoughts. I'll have to go to confession after this. Thanks again Katie!

Note that she doesn't go by the "stronger," "I am woman hear me roar," version of her name - Kate. No this innocent version, Katie. I guess it disarms you.

Total time for the pyramid (not the WU or WD) 25 mins and change.

How fantastic! :) I'm glad you got in and did it. BTW, did I fail to mention that I swam for 16+ years, including college, and that I now coach high school swimming? Oops? ;)

Yay for you just for getting in and giving it a go.

As for my name, in truth, the full name is Kathryn. I wonder what that says about me... I'm not 100% sure but I think it has something to do with purity and light. ;) Were you feeling pure during your workout? Seeing any lights? No? Didn't think so... sorry about confession. But, if you are truly a member of the Kult, confession no longer exists... we worship Pukie and CrossFit only, and you know if you tell Pukie he's just going to kick you in the teeth and tell you to go do round two. :)

HAHAHAHAHA

Where did you swim in college? I played volleyball at Auburn in the early '80s. They had an awesome swim team back then - still do I suppose.

I saw lights - I felt purely something.

I actually used to swim for Elizabethtown, which is a really really teeny tiny private D3 school in PA. We weren't great, but it was fun.

You didn't go toward the lights did you?!?! DON'T GO TOWARDS THE LIGHT!

I'm interested to hear how you feel on day two... ;) There's a reason that my kids HATE Coach Fairman's pyramid sets.... :)

I was wiped-out last night. I feel a little tired today. I am happy to report that the area I feel most tapped-out in is my abs. I try to use my hips/abs to drive the motion.

I used to live in Pgh. My wife is from there.

When I was in High School we had all of the movie channels. This was around 1980 or so. One summer, my little Sister and I watched Poltergeist until we had the script memorized. We'd pick a character.

"Diane! GIVE ME YOUR HAND!" - - - "Steven!! GIVE ME THE TENNIS BALL MARKED NUM-BER ONE!!!!"

you are funny! I like to swim but have a breathing thing. I should get back into it, maybe do a triathlon at some point in this lifetime...
